Breast Cancer Logo at Nail Salon

Nail salons are perfect girlfriend gathering places. Today two of my girlfriends and I treated our feet to pedicures which also gave us the chance to catch up with each others year.

I loved sitting in the Brookstone-like massage chair while my feet got cleaned, massaged, and prettied-up. My friends brought a pink nail polish we all shared; the salonists then painted a Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon logo on each of our big toes. They told me they would sport the color and logo throughout my chemo sessions. I think this is a great idea.

Acts of love come in so many ways: a positive thought or flow of energy, a prayer, a hug, a smile, a shared activity. Today's gesture is another reminder that cancer includes both the pebble thrown into the stream as well as all ripples created around it. It's effects are bigger than one person. More than one person hurts and more than one person heals. Cancer doesn't happen in isolation nor is meant to be experienced in isolation from community. I'm not alone -- and knowing this makes me swell with love, feel comforted, stay calm and on track for more of what's to come. I'm so grateful.
